DETERMINES WHETHER, USING RESPONSES FROM A SELF IMAGE QUESTIONNAIRE, AN ADOLESCENT'S VIEW OF HIS FUTURE COULD BE CORRELATED WITH THE DEGREE OF HIS IMPULSIVITY.
Abstract
THE QUESTIONNAIRE USED IN THIS STUDY CONSISTS OF 130 ITEMS, EACH OF WHICH IS RATED ON A SIX POINT SCALE BY AN ADOLESCENT AS BEING MORE OR LESS TRUE OF HIM. A NUMBER OF THE ITEMS DEAL WITH THE ADOLESCENT'S VIEW OF HIS FUTURE OR HIS INVESTMENT IN PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE. USING THESE ITEMS, SCALES WERE FORMED REFLECTING THE DEGREE OF THE ADOLESCENT'S PESSIMISM OR OPITMISM ABOUT HIS FUTURE AND THE EXTENT OF HIS PLANNING FOR HIS FUTURE. SCORES ON THESE SCALES WERE GENERATED FOR THE DELINQUENTS STUDIED AND FOR A NORMAL ADOLESCENT POPULATION. THE DELINQUENTS' SCORES WERE COMPARED TO THEIR SCORES ON AN IMPULSIVITY INDEX. AN ANALYSIS OF THE RESULTS INDICATE THAT FUTURE OUTLOOK CANNOT BE RELATED TO ANY SINGLE ASPECT OF PSYCHOPATHOLOGY. THIS STUDY CONTAINS TWO CASE STUDIES AND A DETAILED DISCUSSION OF ASPECTS OF JUVENILE PSYCHOPATHOLOGY.
