Abstract
The cover story, Less-Lethal for Less, reports on a large police department's sale of its Taser inventory to smaller police departments in the course of purchasing new, upgraded Tasers. Nine feature articles are as follows: 1) Pandemic Prep argues that although concerns about a H1N1 pandemic have subsided, the next outbreak could occur at any time, so law enforcement agencies should be prepared. 2) A Lesson in Modern Policing describes how the Cincinnati police (Ohio) and the University of Cincinnati's Policing Institute have partnered in applying statistical and social networking analysis in various projects. 3) Advancing Ignition Interlocks describes the features of ignition interlocks, which prevent people from driving drunk. 4) Sight for Sore Eyes describes the features of a novel gun accessory that provides relief from the limits of the human eye. 5) Weapons & Accessories Showcase briefly describes features of various weapons and accessories that have recently come on the market. 6) Less-Lethal for Less briefly describes less-lethal weapons that have recently come on the market. 7) Post-blast Practice describes courses offered by FBI and ATF bomb technicians on how to manage post-blast sites, collect evidence, and conduct post-blast investigations. 8) The Truth Surrounding Lie Detection Technology reviews the research findings on the accuracy of the polygraph and the Computer Voice Stress Analyzer in detecting deception and truthfulness. 9) Enforcement Expo Update: New Classes and Exhibitors Join the 2010 Lineup describes plans for two Enforcement Expo events in September 2010, which will offer a variety of resources that assist officers prepare to perform their jobs both safely and efficiently. News is presented on products and technology, computers and software, the law enforcement technology industry, and a calendar of events.
