Abstract
It explains how a lawsuit is filed, response procedures, the components of the discovery process including interrogatories, deposition, demand for admissions, and production of documents. Information about before-trial tactics, the trial, and the appeal process is provided. In cases where the court rules against the defendant, the brochure explains possible courses of action, such as injunction, compensatory damage, and punitive damages. Suggestions are provided for ways a corrections officer can protect himself from a litigation. A glossary of related terms is included.
