A music video and sensitivity training manual have been developed to help judges, prosecuting attorneys, and law enforcement investigate incest cases and assist child sexual abuse victims.
Abstract
Entitled "Little Lost Angel," the video and manual are intended to prepare investigators for the special needs of children during the questioning process. The video models nonthreatening interaction between child victims and law enforcement, and the manual offers guidance on the investigative process and appropriate strategies for interpersonal interaction with child victims. The manual considers reasons child victims have for not disclosing sexual abuse, the importance of protecting children after disclosure, ways of sensitively approaching children, and steps that investigators can take during the interviewing process to make children feel more comfortable. The use of interview tools, such as anatomically correct dolls, to help children tell their stories is recommended. The manual also covers sensitivity training for judges and attorneys. 3 illustrations
