Lock-down devices for computers, monitors, printers, modems, and other accessories are available to aid in deterring physical theft of equipment.
Abstract
Equipment locks can range in price from $20 to $400. The most inexpensive are cable locks that can be used to attach equipment to desks, walls, or other equipment. The typical package consists of steel mounting plates, vinyl-coated steel cable, and a key lock. Matted locks, mats and harnesses that bond to both the equipment and the desk or other surface, are somewhat more expensive. In addition, many computer lock manufacturers offer additional accessories including alarms, power surge protectors, and access control devices. Chief factors to be considered in selecting locks include the application, aesthetic considerations, bonding strength of plates, method of bonding, and the number of pieces each device will secure.
