This Statistical Digest of the Los Angeles Police Department for 2003 contains data on crimes and other investigations, adult arrests, juvenile arrests, traffic accidents and enforcement, telephone calls received and units dispatched, and personnel and equipment.
Abstract
The first section provides general information for each police district on population, size, and police cost; crime, arrest, and traffic rates per 1,000 population; Part I crimes and attempts; and a 10-year comparison of Part I crimes. The total population served by the Los Angeles Police Department in 2003 was 3,937,690, encompassing an area of 473 square miles at a police cost of $2,081,835 per square mile and $250 per capita. Part I offenses per 1,000 population in 2003 were 46.3, a 3.9-percent decrease from 2002. The arrest rate was 6.6 in 2003, a 10.3 percent decrease from 2002. In the next section of the report, data on crimes and other investigations encompass homicides, forcible rapes, aggravated assaults, robberies and attempts, burglaries and attempts, larcenies and attempts, vehicle thefts and recoveries, worthless documents, Part II offenses, arson, and law enforcement officers killed or assaulted. The section on adult arrests presents data by type of offense according to location, month, and age/sex. The section on juvenile arrest presents the same type of information. Data on traffic accidents and enforcement address, by month and location, total traffic accidents, injury traffic accidents, fatal traffic accidents, and property damage accidents.
