PROJECT TO PROVIDE THE CITY OF CHARLOTTE AND MECKLENBURG COUNTY WITH THE ANALYTICAL CAPABILITIES TO IMPROVE THEIR CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEMS.
Abstract
THIS PROGRAM IS PART OF THE PILOT CITIES PROJECT. TWO OF THE ACTIVITIES WHICH REFLECT INCREASED USE OF A SYSTEMATIC PLANNING PROCESS ARE THE COMMUNITY DRUG ACTION COMMITTEE AND THE MECKLENBURG CRIMINAL JUSTICE PLANNING COUNCIL. NEW APPROACHES TO CRIME CONTROL ARE ATTRIBUTABLE TO THE PRESENCE OF THE PILOT PROJECT. THESE ARE THE DEVELOPMENT OF A RECEPTION AND DIAGNOSTIC CENTER FOR PROCESSING NEWLY COMMITTED INMATES, THE DEVELOPMENT OF A YOUTH INTERVENTION AND DIVERSION PROJECT INTENDED TO DIVERT ADJUDICATED DELINQUENTS FROM TRAINING SCHOOLS. ANOTHER INNOVATION IS A DRUG ACTION PROGRAM WHICH INCLUDES DRUG-RELATED PROJECTS IN THE AREA OF EDUCATION, LAW ENFORCEMENT, AND TREATMENT.
