CASSETT AND SLIDE PRESENTATION BASED ON THE PAMPHLET 'MARSHALING CITIZEN POWER TO MODERNIZE CORRECTIONS,' PART OF AN EDUCATION/ACTION PROGRAM TO STIMULATE BUSINESS AND CITIZEN PARTICIPATION IN IMPROVING CORRECTIONS.
Abstract
THIS BROAD-GAUGED PROJECT WAS UNDERTAKEN BY THE AMERICAN CORRECTIONAL ASSOCIATION, IN COLLABORATION WITH THE U.S. CHAMBER OF COMMERCE, IN RESPONSE TO THE WIDESPREAD COMPLACENCY AND IGNORANCE OF THE PUBLIC CONCERNING THE GOALS, PROBLEMS, AND SUCCESSES OF CONTEMPORARY CORRECTIONS. THE PAMPHLET PROVIDES A REALISTIC APPRAISAL OF THE CORRECIONAL SYSTEMS PROBLEMS IN LAYMAN'S LANGUAGE, A SIMPLE BUT ACCURATE PICTURE OF THE FIELD IN ALL ITS COMPLEXITY AND RANGE OF OPPORTUNITIES, AND GUIDELINES FOR A NEW STRATEGY OF COLLABORATION BETWEEN BUSINESS LEADERS, CITIZEN GROUPS, AND PROFESSIONALS TO UPGRADE THE QUALITY OF CORRECTIONAL SERVICES. THE 80-SLIDE/CASSETTE TAPE PRESENTATION FOCUSES ON HOW BUSINESSMEN CAN EFFECTIVELY AID THE REHABILITATION OF PROBATIONED AND PAROLED OFFENDERS BY REMOVING EMPLOYMENT BARRIERS FOR, TRAINING, AND HIRING THE EX-OFFENDER. A COPY OF THE SLIDE PROGRAMSCRIPT IS PROVIDED. FOR THE FINAL REPORT ON THE PROJECT 'MARSHALING CITIZEN POWER TO MODERNIZE CORRECTIONS,' SEE NCJ-29795.
