THE AUTHOR DISCUSSES THE FINDINGS AND IMPLICATIONS OF A SURVEY OF PERSONAL MONEY LOSSES (DESTROYED, MISPLACE, MISSING, BUT MAINLY STOLEN) WHICH ILLUSTRATES THE IMPACT OF AFFULENCE AND LAX MONEY-HANDLING ON AMERICAN CRIME.
Abstract
THE SURVEY INDICATES A RISE IN MONEY LOSSES, PARTICULARLY THROUGH THEFT, AS INCOME AND AFFLUENCE RISE; IN THIS WAY VICTIMIZATION IS LINKED WITH THE POPULATION AS IT ASCENDS THE INCOME SCALE. IMPLICATIONS FOR PUBLIC EDUCATION IN CRIME PREVENTION ARE DISCUSSED.
