The Individual Developmental Systems Approach (or IDSA treatment program) was initiated in Nebraska as an alternative for adjudicated youth who would otherwise be referred to a State institutional placement. The 5-step program helps youth become law-abiding citizens, provides individual treatment as well as a therapeutic milieu, helps the youth make the transition back into the community, and uses available community resources to support the youths in their efforts.
Abstract
An analysis of 3 years of residential behavior data on 30 participants suggests that offense and age are two factors significantly related to participants' improvement or regression through IDSA. The study suggests the need for differentiated and individualized treatment program plans. 4 tables, 10 figures, 3 notes, and 19 references (Author abstract modified)
