Twenty-five American police departments utilizing mounted patrol were studied.
          Abstract
Questions were asked concerning the attributes of police horses, methods of acquiring horses, functions of mounted units, and problems encountered. Responding departments considered their mounted units an asset in a number of ways, although financing was a pervasive problem. 2 references, 5 tables. (Publisher abstract)
