              Hearings conducted by the National Institute of Corrections Advisory Board in April 1993 in Charleston, S.C., and Albuquerque, N.M., gathered the views of prison and corrections professionals on the current and emerging issues facing their agencies.
          Abstract
              The hearings were separated into two major categories: correctional administration and correctional operations.  Twenty-eight individuals from 20 departments of corrections took part in the hearings, along with members of the NIC Advisory Board, executive staff, and Prisons Division employees. Topics included inmate health care, inmate programs, classification, female inmates, prison industries, security practices, death row management, prison design and construction, shock incarceration programs, personnel management, cultural diversity, and women in leadership.  Further topics included program evaluation, information dissemination, public relations and communications, cost containment and cutback management, management information systems, legal issues, the Americans with Disabilities Act, prevention programs, and State and Federal relationships.
