              This report discusses and presents statistics on the activities of the Neighborhood Mediation Center in Portland, Oreg., which handles disputes between neighbors involving minor criminal and civil matters as well as landlord/tenant concerns.
          Abstract
              It covers staff training, types of complaints received and their source, and disputant demographic characteristics and prior complaint history. Of the complainants who participated in the mediation process during the year, 88 percent reported an improvement in the situation 1 year later. Relationships between the parties improved in 60 percent of the cases. Numerous tables are included.
