Abstract
ESSAYS ON THE OMBUDSMAN SYSTEM AS OPERATING OR PROPOSED IN DIFFERENT NATIONS ARE PRESENTED BY TWENTY-NINE CONTRIBUTORS FROM THIRTEEN COUNTRIES. THE EDITOR CONCLUDES THAT THE OMBUDSMAN SYSTEM IS OR COULD BE AN IMPORTANT ADDITION TO DEMOCRATIC GOVERNMENT, AS IT ENHANCES THE CONTROL AND PRESTIGE OF LEGISLATURES IN A WORLD IN WHICH EXECUTIVE POWER IS GROWING. THE APPENDIX INCLUDES STATISTICAL TABLES ON EXISTING SYSTEMS, AN EXTENSIVE BIBLIOGRAPHY, THE BRITISH PARLIAMENTARY COMMISSIONER ACT, AND ALBERTA'S OMBUDSMAN ACT, AND BILLS PROPOSING OMBUDSMEN FOR CANADA AND THE UNITED STATES.
