Abstract
THE PACE (PROGRAMMED ACTIVITIES FOR CORRECTIONAL EDUCATION) INSTITUTE, IN CONTINUOUS OPERATION SINCE 1967, PROVIDES BASIC EDUCATION, PRE-VOCATIONAL TRAINING, AND PERSONAL AND CAREER COUNSELING IN ITS REHABILITATIVE SETTING WITHIN COOK CO. JAIL (ILLINOIS). THE PROGRAM EMPHASIZES TRAINING INMATES FOR, OR RETURNING THEM TO, FULL EMPLOYMENT AND FURTHERS THIS GOAL THROUGH TRAINING AND SUPPORTIVE SERVICES OFFERED AT ITS NEWLY-CONSTRUCTED DOWNTOWN RELEASE CENTER LOCATED ADJACENT TO CHICAGO CITY CENTER. THIS REPORT DESCRIBES THE INSTITUTE'S ACTIVITIES AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS TO DATE, AND INCLUDES EVIDENCE OF ITS PUBLIC AND PRIVATE FINANCIAL SUPPORT AS WELL AS A COPY OF ITS EXEMPLARY PROJECT APPLICATION.
