The effectiveness of proximity policing through the organization of various community players is the focus of this article.
Abstract
Focusing on the organization of partnerships among various community players, this article discusses the effectiveness of the relatively new approach of proximity policing in France. Arguing that the majority of community partnerships do not inspire much enthusiasm on the part of local police, the author maintains that many law enforcement officials do not consider proximity policing as real or valid police activity, instead considering this approach as a shift towards social work. This article focuses on the ways that certain community players may work together with local police officials calling into question the notion that proximity policing is merely social work.
