DESCRIPTION OF PATCO'S FULLY MACHINE OPERATED FARE COLLECTION SYSTEM, WITH ALL VENDING EQUIPMENT AND ENTRYEXIT GATES IN THE TRAIN STATIONS UNDER CONTINUOUS CLOSED CIRCUIT TELEVISION (CCTV) SURVEILLANCE.
Abstract
A MEANS OF COMMUNICATION IS PROVIDED BETWEEN PASSENGERS AND THE CCTV MONITORS, WHO CAN OBSERVE MALFUNCTIONS OF FARE COLLECTION EQUIPMENT, CAN PROVIDE PASSENGERS WITH TRAIN INFORMATION, AND ARE ABLE TO SPOT AND IDENTIFY FARE EVADERS AND LOITERERS AND CALL IN SPECIAL POLICE ASSISTANCE. THE HIGH-SPEED TRAIN LINE'S 12 STATIONS RECEIVE ROUND-THE-CLOCK POLICE SERVICE FROM ITS OWN 18MAN, PROFESSIONALLY TRAINED POLICE FORCE, FOUR OF WHOM ARE K-9 DOG HANDLERS WHO PATROL WITH THEIR DOGS. THE STATIONS' MAINTENANCE AND SECURITY MEASURES ARE FURTHER DESCRIBED AT SOME LENGTH.
