AN ASSESSMENT OF THIS PROJECT WHICH PROVIDES SUCH SERVICES AS WORK RELEASE, COMMUNITY COLLEGE COURSES, VOLUNTEER WORKERS, LIBRARIES, FEMALE REHABILITATION, AND MUSIC AND THEATRE WORKSHOPS FOR PRISON INMATES.
Abstract
THE ORGANIZATION AND STAFFING OF THE PROGRAM, AND PROGRAM COMPLIANCE WITH EQUAL EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITY COMMISSION GUIDELINES ARE FIRST EXAMINED. PROGRAM ACTIVITIES AND RESULTS ARE THEN REVIEWED. EVALUATION ACTIVITIES INCLUDED INTERVIEWS WITH INMATES AND PROJECT PERSONNEL, A REVIEW OF UPDATED PROGRAM INFORMATION, AND AN ANALYSIS OF PROGRAM PROGRESS. THE WORK RELEASE PROGRAM WAS FOUND TO BE FAIRLY SUCCESSFUL, ALTHOUGH INCREASED WORK RELEASE AVAILABILITY FOR WOMEN WAS NEEDED. INMATE STUDENTS WERE FOUND TO BE VERY DEDICATED TO THE COMMUNITY COLLEGE PROGRAM. CLASS DELAYS AND LACK OF OPPORTUNITY FOR FEMALE INMATES WERE RECURRING PROBLEMS OF THIS PROGRAM COMPONENT. THE ACTIVITIES, RESULTS AND ISSUES OF EACH OF THE OTHER PROGRAM COMPONENTS ARE ALSO DESCRIBED. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT THE EVALUATION OF THE SUBSEQUENT PROJECT PERIOD WOULD BE ENHANCED BY A RESTATEMENT OF PROGRAM GOALS AND COMPONENT OBJECTIVES. FOR THE UPDATE EVALUATION REPORT, SEE NCJ-26200.
