AN OVERVIEW OF THE RATIONALE FOR PLANNING AND THE FORMS WHICH CRIME PREVENTION PLANNING MAY TAKE IS FIRST PROVIDED. THE AUTHOR THEN TRACES THE MEANING AND PRACTICE OF NATIONAL PLANNING WITH ITS ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL PLANNING COMPONENTS. THE INTERRELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN CRIME PREVENTION AND OTHER GENERAL SECTORS OF THE ECONOMY OF A NATION IS INVESTIGATED. FINALLY, SPECIFIC ISSUES IN CRIME PREVENTION AND SOME NATIONAL CRIME PREVENTION PLANNING EXPERIENCES ARE DISCUSSED.
