NATURE OF RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN POLICE AND POOR NONWHITE COMMUNITY.
Abstract
MEANS MUST BE FOUND FOR BRINGING POLICE DEPARTMENTS AND DISAFFECTED, NONWHITE COMMUNITIES TOGETHER IN MUTUALLY SUPPORTIVE WAYS. THE OPTIONS OPEN TO POLICE AND COMMUNITIES IMPLY THAT PROBABLY NO ONE OPTION CONSTITUTES A 'SOLUTION.' A COMBINATION OF TWO REMEDIAL FORMULAS, ONE CREATING MORE ACCESSIBLE GOVERNMENT AGENCIES AND ANOTHER CREATING PERSONALIZING AND EDUCATIVE EXPERIENCES FOR POLICE AND COMMUNITY LEADERS, OFFERS THE BEST HOPE FOR CHECKING A POLARITY THAT PROMISES ONLY GREATER VIOLENCE AND THE FURTHER BREAKDOWN OF LAW ENFORCEMENT.
