Abstract
USING INTERVIEWS AND PROCESS ANALYSIS, THE AUTHORS STUDIED EXISTING CAREER PATHS AND ATTITUDES IN PERSONNEL OF THE ST. LOUIS POLICE. ON THE BASIS OF THE RESEARCH, GENERAL RECOMMENDATIONS APPLICABLE TO OTHER POLICE DEPARTMENTS ARE OFFERED. CAREER ORIENTATION PROGRAMS, MATCHING OF PERSONNEL SKILLS AND INTERESTS TO JOB TASKS, CLARIFICATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF CAREER PATHS, AND DEVELOPMENT OF SOPHISTICATED TRAINING PROGRAMS ARE AMONG THE RECOMMENDATIONS PRESENTED. THE APPENDIXES INCLUDE SAMPLE INTERVIEW FORMS AND QUESTIONNAIRES USED IN THE STUDY.
