A series of articles reviews three different crisis situations to illustrate the management and control, public relations, and interagency cooperation aspects of police emergency operations.
Abstract
The first article is an analysis of the management problems that emerged during the Hyatt-Regency Hotel disaster of July 1981 in Kansas City, Mo. The second discusses the public information officer response to the Air Florida crash of January 1982 in Washington D.C., as an example of the police-community relations function. The final article gives an account of police and firemen's cooperation to reduce hazards resulting from a freight car derailment and chemical spill in Cincinnati during June 1982.
