Abstract
THE AUTHOR STUDIED THE INTEGRATION OF THE POLICE INTO THE POLITICAL SYSTEM, THEORETICAL AND FUNCTIONAL USES OF A DEMAND-RESPONSE MODEL, THE ORIGINS OF POLICE DEMANDS, AND POLICE VERSUS COMMUNITY CONTROL. THE DEMAND STRUCTURE, MAJOR GROUPINGS INVOLVED IN POLICE CHANGE, THE FOCUS OF DEMANDS, THE MAYOR AND POLICE COMMISSIONER AS AGENTS OF CHANGE, COMMUNICATIONS MACHINERY BETWEEN THE COMMUNITY AND THE DECISION MAKERS, THE INPUT OF SUPPORT AS A FACTOR IN POLICE-COMMUNITY CONTROL, AND POLICY CHANGES INDICATING THE EFFECTS OF INCREASED POLICE AND COMMUNITY CONTROL ARE ALSO DISCUSSED.
