THE RIVERSIDE (CA) POLICE DEPARTMENT IS PARTICIPATING IN A TRAINING PROGRAM AT LOMA LINDA UNIVERSITY DEALING IN CHICANO CULTURE - OFFICERS WHO HAVE COMPLETED THE COURSE EXPERIENCED GREATER UNDERSTANDING AND SYMPATHY.
Abstract
THE PROGRAM SEEMS TO HAVE HAD A MARKEDLY GOOD EFFECT ON POLICE COMMUNITY RELATIONS IN THE BARRIO. FOLLOWING THE COURSE WORK, OFFICERS WERE REQUIRED TO LIVE-IN WITH A CHICANO FAMILY FOR A FEW DAYS. THIS INTENSIVE EXPERIENCE HELPED CHANGE A LOT OF ATTITUDES AS CASE HISTORIES ATTEST.
