UTILITY OF GOOD POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONS IN ALLEVIATING SOME OF THE PROBLEMS POSED BY THE PUBLIC'S INCREASED EMPHASIS ON CIVIL RIGHTS.
Abstract
SOME POSSIBLE REMEDIAL ACTIONS ARE PRESENTED TO AID POLICEMEN IN GAINING COMMUNITY SUPPORT AND IN MINIMIZING VIOLENCE IN CIVIL DISTURBANCES. THE NEED FOR IMPROVED PATROLING AND RIOT CONTROL TECHNIQUES IS STRESSED. IT IS SUGGESTED THAT THE POLICE ELIMINATE ALL DOUBLE-STANDARD HYPOCRISY, RESPECT THE RIGHTS OF THE ACCUSED, AND ABOVE ALL, FULFILL THEIR DUTY TO LOOK AFTER THE NEEDS OF THE VICTIM.
