The Special Operations Center (SOC) in Alabama is an established training camp designed to provide counterterrorism training to police officers from the U.S. and abroad. Since opening seven years ago, the SOC has offered two training courses per year at the facility.
Abstract
The SOC curriculum is prepared with the current national and international terrorism situations, trends, and law enforcement initiatives in mind. Intelligence gathering and analysis are emphasized, but each curriculum is tailored to the specific group, their needs, and previous training. The training sessions include classroom instruction, special skills development, and practical exercises and cover light, medium, and automatic weapons; hand to hand combat; hostage negotiations; parachute training; evasive driving; explosive ordnance disposal; and sniper and countersniper actions. The medical component of the program stresses CPR training and a battle wound trauma curriculum. Finally, clients are trained to instruct other people in their precinct; SOC often takes a mobile training unit to an area to follow up on the training.
