Abstract
A product from the State of Florida's second Operation Cease-Fire RAP AGAINST VIOLENCE CONTEST, this CD presents songs and lyrics from the 10 winners of the contest spreading the word against gun violence. The message of volume 2 is 'Develop Not Destroy' (DND), which carries with it the challenge to hip-hop artists and community members to step-up and speak-out against gun violence as well as the culture of witness intimidation. The contest was designed to reach into the homes, hearts, and minds of the community and spread-the-word on the epidemic of gangs and gun violence. The CD was created by the Office of the State Attorney of Florida and supported by a grant from the U.S. Department of Justice, Bureau of Justice Assistance (BJA). The title of the 10 songs on the CD are: You Don't Need Dat; My Conscience; What the Deal Is?; Walk With You; We Need Some Love; Stop PT. II; Step Up; What's Going On?; Put the Weapons Away; and Step Up, Speak Out. Volume 1 of the CD was produced in 2005 resulting from the first RAP AGAINST VIOLENCE CONTEST.
