RESEARCH ON RECIDIVISM BASED ON DATA GATHERED FROM 2312 MALE AND FEMALE EX-CONVICTS DURING A PERIOD OF 5 YEARS IN POLAND.
Abstract
RESULTS INDICATE THAT INDIVIDUAL FACTORS SUCH AS AGE, SEX AND CRIMINAL RECORD HAVE A GREAT INFLUENCE ON RECIDIVISM. OFFENDERS WITH A PREVIOUS CRIMINAL RECORD WERE MOST LIKELY TO RELAPSE INTO CRIME AFTER SERVING THE FULL SENTENCE THAN THOSE ON CONDITIONAL RELEASE. THERE APPEARS TO BE NO SIGNIFICANT RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN RECIDIVISM AND THE TYPE OF OCCUPATION LEARNED IN PRISON. HOWEVER, IN COMPARISON TO PERSONS WHO DID NOT LEARN A PROFESSION IN PRISON, THE OVERALL RATE FOR THOSE WHO RECEIVED VOCATIONAL TRAINING WAS LOW. (AUTHOR ABSTRACT MODIFIED) --IN POLISH...DMC
