SCHEDULE, FORMAT, AND PROCEEDINGS OF A CONFERENCE ON INDIAN, MEXICAN, AND BLACK INVOLVEMENT AS CLIENTS AND VOLUNTEERS.
Abstract
MINORITY MEMBERS ARE APPARENTLY OVERREPRESENTED AS CLIENTS IN THE JUDICIAL SYSTEM AND UNDERREPRESENTED AMONG PROGRAM VOLUNTEERS. PANEL PARTICIPANTS, FOCUSING ON PROBLEMS IN RECRUITMENT, RECOMMEND THAT MINORITIES BE INVOLVED IN THE PLANNING AND POLICY-SETTING STAGES OF PROGRAMS, THAT MORE MINORITY STAFF BE HIRED, AND THAT PROGRAMS BE FLEXIBLE. OTHER SUGGESTIONS CONCERN THE RECRUITMENT OF MINORITY VOLUNTEERS BY MINORITY MEMBERS, THE ESTABLISHMENT OF CHILD DAY CARE CENTERS, THE AVAILABILITY OF TRANSPORTATION FOR VOLUNTEERS, AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF MORE POSITIVE ATTITUDES ABOUT MINORITY VOLUNTEER INVOLVEMENT. INCLUDED IS A LIST OF WORKSHOP PARTICIPANTS, CONSULTANTS, AND GROUP LEADERS. THE REPORT CONTAINS AN EVALUATION OF THE WORKSHOP BY THE PARTICIPANTS.
