THEORETICAL DISCUSSION OF THE NEED FOR A TYPOLOGY OF CRIMES COMMITTED BY SOCIAL GROUPS TO PRESERVE, DEFEND, OR EXPAND PRIVILEGED OR PROFITABLE POSITIONS OR ACTIVITIES.
Abstract
DRAWING EXAMPLES FROM SUCH ORGANIZATIONS AS THE MAFIA, KU KLUX KLAN, INDUSTRIAL COMPLEXES, AND BUSINESSES, AND GOVERNMENTS. THE AUTHOR ELUCIDATES A NUMBER OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THIS FORM OF CRIMINALITY. FOR EXAMPLE, REPRESSIVE CRIME APPEARS FREQUENTLY, IT CONSOLIDATES ITS POSITION THROUGH POWER OR PROPERTY, ITS CHIEF OPPOSITION IS DIRECTED AGAINST POSSIBLE REVOLTS, AND IT DEPENDS ON THE FAILURE OF LEGAL INTERVENTION. THE AUTHOR CONCLUDES THAT AS LONG AS THIS FORM OF BEHAVIOUR IS CONSIDERED CRIMINAL, THERE SHOULD BE REVISION OF A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF CRIMINALOGICAL THEORY.
