Abstract
THE AUTHORS BRIEFLY DISCUSS SCALING TECHNIQUES, THEN DETAIL THEIR METHOD OF ANALYSIS WHICH AIMED AT ESTABLISHING THE EFFECTS OF THE LOGARITHMIC TRANSFORM PROPERTY ON CATEGORY AND MAGNITUDE SCALE DISTRIBUTIONS. THEY ALSO DISCUSS THE IMPLICATIONS OF THEIR FINDINGS IN TERMS OF FINDING OTHER CRITERIA FOR SELECTING A SCALING TECHNIQUE (SUCH AS EFFICIENCY OF ADMINISTRATION OR ANALYSIS) AND OF EVALUATING MEASUREMENT TECHNIQUES IN GENERAL TO DETERMINE THEIR SUITABILITY FOR OTHER AREAS OF SOCIAL RESEARCH.
