SOCIOLOGICAL SIMILARITIES AND DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THREE GROUPS OF INDIVIDUALS - YOUTH, NEGROES, AND THE POOR.
Abstract
SIMILARITIES SHARED BY THE THREE GROUPS INCLUDE VALUE SYSTEMS DIFFERING FROM THE LARGER SOCIETY, EXPERIENCING SPATIAL SEGREGATION, A FEELING OF SELF CONCIOUSNESS, AND A SEARCHING FOR MEANINGFULNESS, IDENTITY, AND SOCIAL JUSTICE. ONE OF THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE GROUPS IS THE RELATIVE PERMANENCY OF THEIR STATUS-THE YOUTH BEING ABLE TO CHANGE THEIRS THROUGH AGING ALONE, WHILE NEGROES AND THE POOR ARE LARGELY UNABLE TO AFFECT A CHANGE.
