Abstract
THE SECURITY AND SAFETY PROGRAM DISCUSSED WAS DEVISED BY A TASK FORCE OF STUDENTS, FACULTY, ADMINISTRATORS, AND SECURITY STAFF. METHODS FOR INCREASING AWARENESS OF THE SECURITY PROBLEM INCLUDE PERIODIC FEATURE ARTICLES IN CAMPUS PUBLICATIONS, INSTRUCTION OF RESIDENT ADVISORS TO ENCOURAGE STUDENTS TO LOCK THEIR ROOMS, PROMINENT SIGNS AND POSTERS IN RESIDENCE HALLS AND CLASS BUILDINGS, AND THE PUBLICATION OF A BOOKLET THAT LISTS STEPS TO BE TAKEN TO REDUCE THE OPPORTUNITY FOR CRIMINAL ACTS AND THE PROCEDURE FOR REPORTING THEM IF THEY OCCUR. THE CAMPUS SECURITY FORCE INCLUDES FORTY UNIFORMED POLICE, SIXTH STUDENT MARSHALS, OFF DUTY POLICE OFFICERS, AND CONTRACTED GUARD SERVICES.
