This volume contains a selection of papers presented at the 1991 International Conference on the Treatment of Sex Offenders.
Abstract
Following a historical overview of research and treatment methods once applied to sex offenders, the first set of papers focuses on the psychodynamic and psychiatric disorders associated with sex offenders. The authors describe various hypotheses of psychological disorders using psychometric tests, and the limitations of these instruments. The second section presents findings on pharmacological interventions including antiandrogen treatment, buspirone therapy, and treatments using lithium carbonate and fluoxetine. A set of five papers discusses treatment techniques and the public perception of sex offender treatment. The final two papers deal with issues relating to practitioners in the field of sex offender treatment. Chapter references
