AN EXAMINATION OF HETEROSEXUAL PEDOPHILIA, THE OFFENSE, THE OFFENDER AND THE VICTIM.
Abstract
PEDOPHILIA IS DEFINED AS THE OVERT DESIRE FOR IMMATURE SEXUAL GRATIFICATION WITH A PREPUBERTAL CHILD. THE HETEROSEXUAL PEDOPHILIC ACT CORRESPONDS TO THE CHILD'S MATURITY LEVEL AND SHOULD NOT BE CONFUSED WITH RAPE. IT RARELY OCCURS BETWEEN STRANGERS IN NOVEL SURROUNDINGS. THE FEMALE VICTIM IS USUALLY BETWEEN THE AGES OF SIX AND ELEVEN WHILE THE OFFENDER, FALLS INTO ONE OF THREE AGE GROUPS, THE YOUNGEST BEING ADOLESCENT. WITH PSYCHIATRIC CONSULTATION, MOST PEDOPHILES CAN BE HANDLED EFFECTIVELY IN THE PROBATIONARY SETTING.
