From 1983 to 1985, 189 boys were reported and compared with a group of girl victims of sexual abuse similar in age and race; similarity in patterns of disclosure and perpetrator characteristics were revealed.
Abstract
Data revealed that males tended to be abused by younger perpetrators than is the case with girls. Only eight males in the study had been abused by females. Sodomy is more frequently reported in the older victims. Abnormal anogenital findings are seen more often in younger victims. Invasive abusive acts affect victims of all ages. Abuse of males by adolescents is more frequent than abuse of females. The data for this study must be considered underestimations of the true occurrence rates. 6 tables, 1 graph, and 15 references.
