This bulletin summarizes the volume and movement of offender populations supervised by the Wisconsin Division of Corrections during the calendar year 1979.
Abstract
Trends over a 5-year period are presented for the major population groups -- residents in State insititutions, offenders superivsed in the community, residents of State residential centers, and absconders from probation and parole supervision. Appended tables present information on population counts taken at the beginning and end of the year, intake and separations during the year, and average daily populations. The total population of the division increased by 1,106 cases (4.3 percent) from 25,546 cases at the beginning of the year to 26,652 cases at the end. Institution populations declined 1.6 percent (reflecting a drop in juvenile cases) from 4,104 to 4,039; active field supervision cases increased 4.8 percent from 18,780 to 19,685; and the number of absconders rose 10 percent from 2,662 to 2,928. Footnotes to the tables are included. (Author abstract modified)
