This annex to Great Britain's Statistical Bulletin presents statistics on drug seizures and dispositions of drug offenders for 1996.

Abstract

One map shows the geographic location by police jurisdiction of drug seizures per million population. Another map presents the year-on-year change in numbers of drug seizures reported for 1995-96 by police force area. A third map shows the proportion of drug offenders cautioned by police force area for 1996, and a fourth map portrays the proportion of drug offenders sentenced to immediate custody by police force area for 1996. Four tables pertinent to drug seizures present statistics on seizures of controlled drugs by police force area or other organization for the years 1986 through 1996; rates of seizure of controlled drugs by police force area for 1985 through 1996; seizures of controlled drugs by police force area or other organization by drug type for 1996; and rates of seizure of controlled drugs by police force area and drug type for 1996. Eight tables pertain to case dispositions for drug offenders. The first four tables show disposition statistics for each year from 1986 through 1996. Data show the number of persons found guilty, cautioned, or dealt with by compounding for drug offenses by police force area or other authority; the rates of persons found guilty of or cautioned for drug offenses by police force area; the number of persons cautioned or dealt with by compounding for drug offenses by police force area or other authority; and cautioning/compounding rates for drug offenses by police force area or other authority. Two other tables present the number of persons found guilty, cautioned, or dealt with by compounding for drug offenses by police force area or other authority by type of drug and by type of offense for 1996. Another two tables show the number and percentages of persons found guilty, cautioned, or dealt with by compounding for drug offenses by police force area or other authority according to the sentence or order given for 1996.
