DESCRIPTION OF A PROGRAM FOR THE DETECTION, INVESTIGATION AND CORRECTION OF THE UNAUTHORIZED POSSESSION AND USE OF A STOLEN ELECTRIC METER OR THE UNAUTHORIZED MANIPULATION OF METERS.
Abstract
THE METHODS INVOLVED IN THE THEFT OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY ARE DESCRIBED. AMONG THESE ARE THE THEFT OF ELECTRIC METERS, THE DELIBERATE ABUSE AND TAMPERING WITH METERING DEVICES, AND THE USE OF JUMPERS. MEASURES TAKEN TO COUNTERACT ENERGY THEFT INCLUDE ENLISTING THE COOPERATION OF BUILDING CONTRACTORS, WARNING CUSTOMERS THAT ENERGY THEFT WILL BE PROSECUTED, REMOVING ILLEGAL SOURCES OF POWER SUPPLY, AND 'STAKE-OUTS' BY COMPANY INVESTIGATORS. AN ANALYSIS OF THE REVENUE LOST AS A RESULT OF ENERGY THEFT IS ALSO PROVIDED. NEW ORLEANS
