ACTIVITIES AND ACHIEVEMENTS OF A PROJECT TO ESTABLISH A FAMILY CRISIS SERVICE AS AN INTEGRAL PART OF THE POLICE DEPARTMENT IN HANDLING DOMESTIC DISTURBANCES AND OTHER ASSISTANCE-ORIENTED CALLS.
Abstract
STATISTICS ARE PROVIDED ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF CALLS OVER TIME, ORIGIN OF CALLS, REFERRAL AGENCIES, AND TYPES OF PROBLEMS ENCOUNTERED. THE SUCCESS OF THE CRISIS SERVICE IS MEASURED IN TERMS OF THE SUCCESS RATE WITH CITIZENS REFERRED TO COMMUNITY AGENCIES, DIVERSION OF CITIZENS FROM THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM, AND TRANSFER OF FAMILY CRISIS ASSISTANCE CALLS FROM THE GENERAL PATROL FORCE. THE PROJECT ALSO FACILITATED A CLOSER RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN THE CRISIS SERVICE AND OTHER COMMUNITY SERVICE AGENCIES. A CRISIS INTERVENTION TRAINING PROGRAM WAS ESTABLISHED FOR THE ENTIRE POLICE DEPARTMENT.
