THE MYTHOLOGY WHICH SURROUNDS THE VIOLENT ACT OBSCURES THE NEED TO TREAT EACH OFFENDER AS AN INDIVIDUAL.
Abstract
MURDERERS AND VIOLENT OFFENDERS CANNOT BE CLASSIFIED INTO ONE TYPOLOGY. MANY WHO COMMIT ONLY ONE VIOLENT ACT POSE NO FURTHER THREAT TO SOCIETY. EACH OFFENDER MUST BE EVALUATED ON THE BASIS OF HIS BACKGROUND, BEHAVIORAL CHARACTERISTICS AND LIKELIHOOD OF FUTURE AGGRESSION.
