This article discusses what security managers should know before selecting an armored car service provider.
Abstract
Before selecting armored transportation and related services providers, security managers should assess their organizations' specific needs and prioritize the services desired. Steps involved in hiring an armored carrier include: investigating the services each provides; interviewing providers; determining whether the service adheres to standards established by a national trade group; evaluating the quality of the service's personnel; reviewing the provider's security practices and operating procedures, including their tracking/receipting system and packaging methods; and evaluating the quality of a provider's insurance. In addition, the security manager should inspect the facilities and fleets of carriers under consideration. The article briefly describes services armored carriers provide beyond the typical cash pickup and delivery, such as ATM replenishment and servicing, deposit of proceeds from parking meters, school cafeterias and subway stations, bulk currency distribution, coin verification and wrapping, and special sales events.
