The American Jail Association (AJA) has compiled up-to- date information on city and county jails, based on a survey of virtually every jail in the country, to provide an accurate reference for all public sector and military jails throughout the United States.
Abstract
The directory lists U.S. jails alphabetically by State and includes the address and telephone number for each jail and information on year built, rated capacity, sheriff, and administrator. The directory also identifies metropolitan correctional centers, military confinement facilities, direct supervision jails, jails accredited by the American Correctional Association, and jails accredited by the National Commission on Correctional Health Care. In addition, the directory provides information on sheriffs and police chiefs who operate jails, jail administrators, rated capacities of jails, State jail inspection officials and programs, and products and services for the jail industry. The organization and role of the AJA is described, and a mission statement is included.
