The 2-year research project began with the selection of an advisory committee and continued with surveys of correctional practitioners, architects, public interest groups, and accreditation professionals and committee meetings and discussions. The surveys focused on existing standards and proposed changes for adult and juvenile facilities of all types. Topics included the size of the institution, space and furniture, recreational areas, dining areas, and related subjects.
