Abstract
The "Human Touch Performance-Appraisal Process" involves supervisors and managers demonstrating to their staffs that they care about the hopes, goals, and concerns of individual staff members. The "human touch" approach encourages staff members to build on their strengths and realize their true potential. This workbook provides directions for conducting a personnel evaluation that implements the "human touch" concept. The three steps of the performance appraisal are preparing for the appraisal meeting, conducting the meeting, and following up. In the meeting itself, the supervisor/manager and the staff member discuss the member's past job performance. Through this process, the staff member understands how he/she is doing and agrees on what needs to be done to enhance current and future performance. The supervisor/manager guides the meeting by asking appropriate questions and using effective listening skills. An eight-step process is described for conducting an effective performance appraisal. Each chapter has stated learning objectives for the reader, along with chapter review questions.
