Abstract
Designed as a training program for law enforcement officers, this interactive CD-ROM provides an introduction to gangs, gang activity, and gang members’ use of drugs. Produced by the National High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Assistance Center, this CD-ROM was developed from research conducted with gangs in Chicago, Los Angeles, New York, and New Jersey. Easy to install and use, this CD-ROM includes a set-up program file that details how to navigate the CD. The home page of this CD presents a series of buttons to allow for the selection of a wide variety of topics. Main topics such as what are gangs, the law versus gangs, recruitment, gang organizations, hand signs and slang terms, gang groups, graffiti, drugs and violence, HIDTA versus gangs, and references bring the user into a series of subcategories. Each major section provides a discussion of the topic with the user able to easily advance ahead or return to a previous page. The CD-ROM is designed so that the user completes each section before being returned to the main menu, preventing the user from overlooking any of the information.
