These 11 papers examine the impact of illegal drug trafficking on the national security of the United States and of the Western hemisphere and emphasize that solutions must come in broad international cooperation, including the elimination of the illegal drug market in the United States.
          Abstract
Individual papers explore the relationship between drug trafficking and national security and the history of diplomacy between the United States and Latin American countries through 1965. Further papers consider United States narcotics policy in relation to the Mexican narcotics traffic, other countries in Latin America, and countries involved in cocaine production and trafficking. Additional papers focus on the role of the United States military in efforts to address drug trafficking, the role of the United States Congress, the perspective of the Mexican government, and policy options and recommendations.
