This report describes Ohio’s program for managing sex offenders.
Abstract
The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (DRC) has focused attention on strategies to help sex offenders stop victimizing and has dedicated significant resources to providing effective supervision for parolees in order to reduce the risk to the community. In December 1995, the DRC opened the Sex Offender Risk Reduction Center. The Center evaluates and provides an introduction to sex offender programming to 40 sex offenders entering DRC each week. The DRC has expanded services so that all offenders are able to realize the impact of their offenses and the seriousness of their behavior. The report describes the vision, mission and philosophy of DRC’s activities. In addition, it provides: (1) Summary of Sex Offender Services; (2) Classification and Tracking; (3) Flow Chart for Sex Offender Programs; (4) Sex Offender Programs (Risk Reduction Center, Risk Scale, Education, Residential Program, Day Program, Aftercare, Pre-Release Education, Management Program and Division of Parole and Community Services); (5) Professional Development and Training; (6) Sex Offender Research Agenda; and (7) House Bill 180.
