This directory describes the characteristics of juvenile detention facilities and their populations and lists local and county facilities in which juvenile are detained, including secure detention, staff secure detention, shelter care, and holdover facilities.
Abstract
The information is reported as of March 31, 1997 when available. Data came from questionnaires and follow-up telephone calls that collected information on administration, budgets, populations, classifications, age groups, average length of stay, and personnel. The facilities are grouped by State. The information about each facility includes some or all of the following: name, address, telephone and fax numbers, names of administrators or directors, type and year opened, type of administration, rated capacity, per-capita cost, average stay, operating budget, and number of personnel. Information is also provided about the facility's juvenile population, including its number, classification, and age group. An overview summary for each State describes the scope of juvenile detention in that State.
