FEASIBILITY OF ADAPTING THE BASICALLY HIGH SENSITIVITY PROPERTY OF PLASMA CHROMATOGRAPHY (PC) TO THE DETECTION OF HEROIN.
Abstract
THE INSTRUMENT MODELS USED WERE BETA/III, BETA IV, AND ALPHA/I. BOTH POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE PLASMAGRAM CHARACTERISTICS WERE OBTAINED FROM A 'STREET HEROIN' SAMPLE. THE SAMPLE CONTAINED 5 PERCENT HEROIN HCL, 10 PERCENT QUININE HCL, AND 85 PERCENT MANNITOL. ALTHOUGH THE GENERAL PC SENSITIVITY OF .01 PPB TO 1 PPM IS CONSERVED FOR THE HEROIN DETECTION, IT APPEARS THAT THIS BASIC SENSITIVITY MUST BE FRACTIONALLY DISTRIBUTED OVER THE MANY CHARACTERISTIC PEAKS WHICH APPEAR VARIOUSLY, DEPENDING ON SAMPLE AGE AND INTERACTION WITH LOCAL AIR, I.E., WATER VAPOR INTERACTION. POSITIVE PLASMAGRAMS APPEAR TO BE ASSOCIATED MORE WITH THE TOTAL HEROIN STRUCTURE, WHEREAS NEGATIVE PLASMAGRAMS APPEAR TO DEPEND ON ACETIC ACID, A DECOMPOSITION BY-PRODUCT FOR THE HEROIN.
